Finding the mystery ally in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most intriguing milestones in Link's journey across Hyrule. While players are initially guided toward four main regional phenomena, a secret fifth companion remains concealed until specific conditions are met. Locating this hidden figure requires traveling high into the sky and venturing deep underground to awaken a powerful ancient construct.
Prerequisites for Unlocking the Secret Quest
Before players can officially locate the fifth sage, they generally need to complete the four main village storylines involving the Zora, Goron, Rito, and Gerudo tribes. Following these events, Purah at Lookout Landing sends Link on a quest to investigate Ring Ruins in Kakariko Village. This investigation opens the path through the thick thunderclouds hovering over the Faron region.
However, adventurous players can actually skip parts of the main storyline if they have enough stamina to navigate the storm clouds early. Reaching Dragonhead Island requires navigating low visibility and dense fog, making ten or more heart containers extremely useful for survival. Preparing warm clothing and stamina-replenishing meals will make reaching the floating ruins much easier.
Reaching Dragonhead Island and the Charged Shrine
The quest properly begins once Link reaches Joku-usin Shrine in the Thunderhead Isles, which sits high above the Faron Woods. Paragliding through the lightning storm leads to a massive carved stone door that demands ten full heart containers to open. Passing this vitality test grants access to a sacred chamber containing a glowing Zonai mask that points toward the surface below.
Interacting with the mask initiates a beam of light that points directly down into the Depths of Hyrule. Players must carry or transport this mask using Zonai devices down to the Tobio's Hollow Chasm. Following the light beam leads directly into the Construct Factory, the central hub where the body of Mineru, the Sage of Spirit, must be assembled.
Assembling the Construct in the Depths
Upon arriving at the Construct Factory, players discover four distinct depot buildings surrounding a central pedestal. Each depot contains a specific limb piece sealed inside a puzzle room that tests Link's building creativity with Ultrahand. Completing a depot requires constructing vehicles to transport the arm or leg back to the main torso structure.
Once all four limbs are attached to the central frame, the mechanical vessel comes to life as a usable mount. Mineru guides Link toward the Spirit Temple located further south in the Depths to retrieve her Secret Stone. Fighting through gloom-infested monsters along the path allows players to test out the construct's combat capabilities and attached weaponry.
Confronting the Seized Construct at the Spirit Temple
At the heart of the Spirit Temple, Link faces the Seized Construct in an arena surrounded by electrified ropes. Defeating this boss requires knocking it into the barrier using guard counters, cannon attachments, or heavy melee attacks. Managing your positioning and shielding against its rocket-powered charges is critical to victory.
After defeating the corrupted machine, Mineru officially bestows her vow upon Link, granting him the permanent ability to summon her mech in battle. This unique capability allows players to traverse gloom terrain safely and mount heavy artillery directly onto the construct frame. Unlocking this final companion completes the set of ancient guardians needed to face Ganondorf.
